Online advertisers urged to look at site navigation

Firms seeking to increase the number of conversions they achieve from advertising click-throughs to their website should make improving navigation and usability a priority, it has been advised.
Making websites easy to get around can do much to increase sales for online organisations, according to Roger Park of Yahoo!.
The expert wrote on the Yahoo! Search Marketing blog that companies could look at factors such as laying out a clear pathway for customers to follow so that they can easily find the product they were searching for in the first instance.
Customers should be able to get to the page they are looking for in two clicks, while putting non-commercial material below the fold can be a boon for companies focusing on maximising sales, Mr Park stated.
He said: "Try to see your website through the eyes of your visitor. If it's too confusing and messy, users may get turned off by the bad experience and leave your site. So, keep it clean and clear."
Shailesh Manga of Optimal Usability recently told the New Zealand Herald that website users should be able to see which page they are on by looking at the navigation bar.
