The most popular web space among US users for videos in April was YouTube, new figures suggest.

YouTube represented 98 per cent of all videos watched on Google sites over the course of the month, comScore statistics reveal.

The news emerges after Brian Shin, founder and chief executive officer of Visible Measures, urged online advertisers to demonstrate the effectiveness of viral marketing video campaigns.

Google sites commanded a 38 per cent share of the 11 billion videos watched by US web users in April, the report shows.

Meanwhile, people between the ages of 18 and 34 were the most likely to watch content broadcast online, with members of this age group viewing 287 minutes of web video during the month, on average.

The second-most popular property for viewing videos was Fox Interactive Media, which took a 5.1 per cent share of total views.

Sites owned by Yahoo! represented 3.2 per cent of all video views, while Microsoft properties took a 2.4 per cent slice of the total.
