E-commerce 'useful for mothers'

Online shopping is a useful way for new mothers to purchase items for their offspring, a new report indicates.
According to research by Prospectiv, almost two-thirds of mothers research purchases on the web before buying in-store and one-third use e-commerce resources to purchase items for their child, reports MediaPost.
Search was the top information source for 47 per cent of respondents, while 16 per cent used e-newsletters based around products for young people and 12 per cent looked to branded product sites.
Jere Doyle, chief executive officer of Prospectiv, said that the amount of mothers actually making purchases on the internet is significant given the "personal" nature of buying items for a baby or toddler.
The 33 per cent of mothers who buy items on the web represents a "fairly strong number", he commented.
Sue Ormesher, acting head of press and PR for Parentline Plus, recently urged new parents to seek support during the upheaval associated with becoming a mother or father.
