Since its Google blacklisting, car insurance comparison website GoCompare.com has increased its participation in paid search, new statistics suggest.
Earlier this year, the website saw its search rankings plummet after receiving a penalty from Google.
And paid search was one of the online strategies pursued by the company when it dropped from second position for the term 'car insurance' to ninth, observes Robin Goad on his blog for Hitwise.
"GoCompare.com's paid search activity for the term shot up and, although this is now declining as the site's organic ranking recovers, it is still well above the pre-blacklisting levels," he states.
Since dropping to ninth position - where it received less than two per cent of traffic for the term 'car insurance' - the site has begun climbing back, reaching seventh place over the last four weeks.
According to comScore, consumers purchased two million car insurance policies on the internet in 2007, up 37 per cent from the previous year.
