Internet Explorer 'will still dominate'

Internet Explorer is unlikely to be usurped by another web browser, one industry publication has said.

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor at Web User magazine, stated that Microsoft's dominant position is likely to hold for the foreseeable future.

He was speaking after Mozilla announced that Firefox 3 is to be launched in June of this year.

Mr Camm-Jones noted that the fifth beta version available for download may not "have an absolutely massive effect" because Firefox's market share has for some years been rising gradually anyway.

"Of course, the proof of the pudding will be how good it is, how fast it is, and how effectively Mozilla communicate that message," he said.

According to Net Applications, Firefox's market share in the UK was 14.95 per cent in 2007, compared to Internet Explorer's 78.58 per cent share - but Firefox has grown to represent 17.35 per cent of the market this year, compared to Internet Explorer's 75.06 per cent.
