Christmas present hunters who used the internet to buy their festive gifts have reported encouraging customer service experiences from some of the big internet vendors.
Research from Nielsen Online showed that both Amazon and eBay scored favourably for customer satisfaction, with 86.6 and 80.5 per cent of customers respectively saying they were very satisfied with the sites.
The most popular online shopping was for clothes, shoes and accessories, with 43.2 per cent claiming to have a made a purchase from such a site already this festive season.
"Online retailers should be thrilled that, regardless of whether or not sales meet expectations, this holiday season will provide a solid foundation for 2008 from a customer service perspective," said Ken Cassar, vice-president of industry solutions analytics at Nielsen Online.
The research - part of the Nielsen Online Holiday Survey - also showed what the top video game console purchases were online, with Nintendo's Wii leading the way, ahead of Sony's PlayStation 2.
Last week, research from comScore revealed that some £11.4 billion was spent in the first 46 days of the festive period.
