While the design standard of corporate websites has increased, there is still room for improvement, according to a new report from Investis IQ.

The firm's director, Al Loehnis, suggested companies can further improve their competitive advantage in the long term through a number of simple measures, including ensuring essential corporate information is easily visible on a site.

He explained that these details could include a description of the firm's key business drives, size and market share - which are particularly important for investors to consider during times of recession.

Mr Loehnis said: "All too often this sort of information is nowhere to be found on corporate websites - a missed opportunity as it is the first place that the vast majority of stakeholders will come looking."

Investis IQ evaluated the sites of FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies on some 200 criteria, ranking the website for Royal Dutch Shell as the top corporate site in the UK.

The site features company information in several languages, including English, French, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese.
