Experts warn of rising cybercrime threat

Cybercrime is becoming an increasing threat to web users and businesses, experts at the World Economic Forum have warned.
A panel consisting of professionals from companies such as Microsoft, Mozilla, McAfee, Garlik and Kudelski noted that a growing proportion of instances of cybercrime can now be attributed to large-scale gangs rather than lone individuals.
Furthermore, one panellist pointed out that the internet security landscape was transformed last year with the advent of cyber warfare between different countries, the BBC reports.
The expert warned that this could increase further as more internet-enabled devices become available.
According to comScore, there were one billion web users worldwide last year and this could increase further over the next few years.
Discussing the potential ways in which the rise of cybercrime could be combated, another panellist commented: "The internet is a global network; it doesn't obey traditional boundaries and traditional ways of policing don't work."
