The down economy has resulted in a boom for traffic to US job search websites, according to new figures.
Statistics from comScore showed that its job search category was the fastest growing group of websites in 2008.
Unique visitor numbers to such sites rose by 51 per cent to 18.8 million last year as more companies announced job losses over the course of 2008.
The most popular interactive job search sites were CareerBuilder.com, Yahoo! HotJobs, Indeed.com and Monster.com, according to the data.
Jack Flanagan, executive vice-president of comScore, said: "Online job search resources provide a vital service to those in need of new job prospects and opportunities and Americans are turning online for this assistance now more than ever."
The fastest-growing US websites overall in December were Frontiernet.net, Fantasy Sports Ventures and Wunderground.com, according to comScore.
Meanwhile, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft remained the most popular web properties during the month.
