Facebook has unveiled a new navigation design as it celebrates the sixth anniversary of its establishment.
In a blog post, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook said that he expects the social network's user base to surpass the 400 million mark this week.
"Just one year ago, we served less than half as many people and thanks to you we've made great progress over the last year towards making the world more open and connected," he added.
He explained that the site will unveil several new products and features to celebrate its birthday - and a new navigation scheme was announced by Facebook engineer Jing Chen hours later.
In another blog post, she revealed that the social media site had been testing changes to the navigation design for several months.
The new scheme that is now being rolled out moves notifications from the bottom of the page to the top and makes greater use of the left-hand menu for access to various types of content.
