UK travel firms have been urged to ensure their online operations offer the best possible customer experience.

According to IMRG and eDigitalResearch's latest e-Customer Service Index survey, 48 per cent of Britons are more likely to look online this year to hunt for the best holiday deals.

Furthermore, 12 per cent more people will be actually booking their holiday travel or accommodation online compared with 2009.

This means that travel organisations need to focus on boosting website accessibility and usability to offer the best customer experience, the report suggested.

Chris Russell, co-founder and director of eDigitalResearch, said: "While [travel firms] may be investing more of their marketing budgets online, it is important to look beyond the wow factor and balance clear engaging content with good customer service support."

The survey comes after Genesys published a report calling on tour operators to ensure their websites are accessible for mobile internet users, even if they do not intend to sell through this channel, TravelMole reported.
