Travel tour operators have been urged to seriously consider setting up a presence on the mobile web following the success that the sector has seen in the ecommerce space.
According to a report from consultancy Genesys, many tour operators are now selling online to take advantage of consumers' need for instant transactions, TravelMole reports.
While mobile commerce is still a young medium, it is vital that operators build a mobile website that is easily accessible on small screens, such as those belonging to netbooks and standard phones, Genesys senior partner Paul Richer remarked.
"You need to make sure your website is still readable on these devices, even if you do not specifically invest in mobile technology," he added.
In November, a survey by travel guide publisher Frommer's and TravelMole revealed that almost 90 per cent of travel firms intend to maintain or increase their spending on online marketing.
Search engine optimisation was found to be the top budget priority for these companies.
