A growing number of social media and other internet marketing campaigns are being launched in the US as the Super Bowl XLIV American football tournament nears.
Sponsors associated with the event are looking to new sites and technology to engage audiences for this popular highlight of the US sporting calendar, BrandWeek reports.
Some of the tactics being used include the inclusion of user-generated web content in online and offline campaigns, as well as previewing ads to be aired on TV during the Super Bowl on rich media sites like YouTube.
According to Jon Kaplan, financial services industry director for Google, 2010 is seeing more firms focus on reaching a new "level of sophistication" for their sports online marketing campaigns.
He added that a growing number of marketers are considering "how to use YouTube to promote your videos [and] how to use Google when people will be searching for your brand".
The Super Bowl takes place in Florida on February 7th this year.
