Mozilla has launched a new release candidate version of its upcoming Fennec browser for mobile phones.

The browser - which works in a similar way to Firefox - can only be used on a few mobile platforms at present, although users can see what it is like by running it on their desktop PC.

Website development professionals may want to download the release candidate to get an idea of how they might need to tweak their projects to work with the browser when it is officially launched.

Some of Fennec's main features include tabbed browsing, quick bookmarking and the Awesome bar, which sees the address bar double as a search box that takes users directly to the first website listed in search results for a particular term.

The previous Fennec release candidate was launched on December 31st, following the unveiling of Fennec 1.0 Beta 3 last August.

Firefox is currently the second most popular web browser in the world, behind Internet Explorer and ahead of Google Chrome, according to Net Applications.
