Internet music websites are becoming increasingly popular among Japanese consumers, according to a new report.
Published by web monitoring firm comScore, the figures showed that almost 40 per cent of the Japanese internet population clicked through to a music website during August.
About 21.9 million people flocked to music sites during the month, with 7.3 million visiting the most popular of these properties, Yahoo! Music.
High traffic levels were also recorded for Sony Connect, Sony BMG Music Entertainment and Utamap.com, comScore noted.
Maru Sato, managing director of comScore Japan, claimed that the statistics showed the web is now a "key" interactive platform for the delivery and consumption of music in Japan.
"With so much consumer music activity occurring in the digital space today, it is increasingly important to capture the available audience now and get them engaged with your service," he added.
Last month, comScore released figures showing that over half of web users in the Asia-Pacific region visited an online gaming website in August.
