Insurance company Aviva has had its website ranked as the best out of all those belonging to FTSE 100 organisations in a new study.

According to the Investis Quarterly benchmarking service, Aviva had the top score in all of the 11 categories it based its research on, including investor and media communications, multimedia and the use of Web 2.0 features.

One of the main interactive elements of Aviva's website is a customisable investor page where users can add and remove the content they wish to build their own information service.

The table saw Royal Dutch Shell take second spot and Anglo American achieve third place. Companies in the food retail industry generally did better than those in other sectors, while mining organisations performed the worst overall.

"In this volatile market environment it has never been more important for companies to establish their own websites as the go-to authority for information, news and commentary on their business and the industries in which they operate," remarked Al Loehnis, business development director for Investis.
