YouTube users in the US can now purchase music and other products related to the content of certain videos by clicking on new e-commerce links under these clips.
The video-sharing site has added 'click-to-buy' links to the video pages of thousands of its partners, with products available from retailers like Amazon and iTunes, according to a post on the Official Google Blog.
User-generated videos can also have these links attached to them through the YouTube content identification and management system.
This comes as Google continues to test new ad formats for YouTube to earn higher revenues from the web property.
"Our vision is to help partners across all industries - from music, to film, to print, to TV - offer useful and relevant products to a large, yet targeted audience and generate additional revenue from their content on YouTube beyond the advertising we serve against their videos," YouTube's Glenn Brown and Thai Tran commented.
Google has also announced this week a new AdSense product that will allow game publishers and developers to insert video, image and text ads into online gaming applications.
