The number of consumers going online to make retail purchases is on the rise, a new study has suggested.
Conducted by price comparison website Shopzilla.co.uk, the poll revealed that over 11 million Britons now shop online at least two times a week, mostly for clothes, books, CDs and DVDs.
About 90 per cent indulge in online shopping once a month, while a higher proportion of consumers were found to rate e-commerce higher than physical stores when it came to satisfaction and service.
The majority of respondents said they believed the online shopping experience had improved significantly in the last five years, particularly in terms of security.
"Web shoppers in the UK are savvy and although this research shows they are enjoying the online shopping experience, it is clear they will not put up with poor website performance and after-sales service," commented Scott Macon, managing director of Shopzilla Europe.
Popular online fashion retailer Asos.com recently announced a sales increase of 104 per cent for the six months to September, despite the ongoing credit crunch.
