Yahoo! has announced that it is to redesign parts of its website to gain a wider audience as part of a revamped online strategy.
The company said in a press conference last week that it intends to implement a new design for its homepage and add new features to its news and music sections, the Associated Press reports.
According to Yahoo!, those registered with the site will be able to access widgets from other websites and organisations directly from the homepage in a bid to make the user experience more personalised.
Meanwhile, Yahoo!'s news pages will feature more local articles, while the music section will be opened up as part of efforts to take on major competitors such as Apple's iTunes and Amazon.
The changes will be gradually rolled out over the next few months, Yahoo!'s Ash Patel said.
Last week, AOL also announced plans to offer a wider range of services to users from its homepage, including access to a number of different email offerings - such as Yahoo!, Gmail and Hotmail - as well as a social network hub and integrated RSS feed reader.
