More sports websites 'should offer video content'

Sports website owners should do more to offer significant levels of video content following the success of the Beijing Olympics on the web.
This is according to David Hallerman, senior analyst for eMarketer, who said that while video advertising revenues for the US Olympics website run by NBC were not as high as may have been expected, the venture showed that online video has much potential in the area of sports.
"As a signifier for future online events, the Games set a high bar for the competition - establishing that major sports events, tournaments and professional leagues ought to offer an abundance of video content online, not just snippets," he remarked.
According to eMarketer, most of the record levels of traffic recorded on NBCOlympics.com were not viewers of video content, citing the need to download Microsoft Silverlight to view clips as a potential deterrent for internet users.
Ryan Stewart of ZDNet recently noted that Adobe saw significant success in the online domain during the Olympics thanks to the likes of the BBC and China-based CCTV making extensive use of Flash to display video streaming content.
