Beijing Olympics website visited by 54k Brits a day

About 54,000 Britons visited the official Beijing Olympics website every day last week, according to new figures.
Released by Nielsen Online, the statistics showed that 930,000 people from around the world logged on to the site each day during the week ending August 15th.
The largest number of visitors hailed from the US, followed by France, Australia and the UK.
Meanwhile, NBC's Olympics site saw about 1.5 million visitors per day on average last week, while Brazil-based Terra experienced 119,000 unique visits to its video streaming section per day during the period.
Jon Gibs, vice-president of media analytics for Nielsen Online, noted that the internet has helped to remove the time zone barrier for many Olympics fans.
"Local, regional and global websites are benefiting and with English, French, Spanish and Chinese versions, Beijing2008.cn is a popular destination for internet users around the world," he commented.
According to Hitwise, the BBC Sports website has seen significant traffic in the UK thanks to the Olympics.
