Second website advised for backup purposes

Businesses may do well to create a second website to use in case their main site goes down for any reason, it has been advised.
Such a practice can be beneficial to those who rely on their websites and "is common in disaster recovery and business continuity planning", Guy Bunker, chief scientist at security services firm Symantec, commented.
However, he went on to warn that businesses do forget how important their sites can be to their operation and so neglect to undertake any backup procedures - something that could lead to serious harm to organisations' online activities.
Sainsbury's recently saw its e-commerce website crash for prolonged periods of time, potentially resulting in a loss of customers.
Implementing a website monitoring process may be of use to some organisations, but only if it is possible to make the system automatically respond to any problems that come up as soon as they happen, Mr Bunker added.
