Consistent website branding 'could attract social media users'

A clear and consistent use of branding across a website could do much to make pages sticky for visitors from social media websites, it has been claimed.
Social bookmarking sites such as StumbleUpon and Digg are becoming increasingly popular among web users as a way of finding interesting content across the web, New Media Age (NMA) reports.
Online publishers are finding that traffic to some of their articles can see significant gains if links to these pages appear on bookmarking websites.
According to NMA, owners could keep these users on their sites for longer by implementing a consistent website design involving relevant links around the article, citing the Guardian as a good example of how such a practice can be a success.
"We also make sure that articles have a reflection of what's going on now so that people popping in can see we're a live news organisation," said Sean Clarke, special projects editor at the Guardian.
The newspaper recently finished an overhaul of its site that saw it change the look of each of its sections for a more consistent appearance.
