Prime minister Gordon Brown's official website has undergone a makeover to include more multimedia elements.

Number10.gov.uk features a range of images, videos and microblogs powered by Flickr, YouTube and Twitter to provide up-to-the-minute information on what the prime minister is doing in the course of his official duties.

The website, which is currently in beta testing, will also feature live video streaming of Prime Minister's Questions and clips offering 'behind-the-scenes' footage, according to the BBC's Newsbeat.

Users can utilise the website to get in touch with the prime minister via a YouTube question-and-answer tool and e-petitions. An email newsletter will also become available.

A spokesman for Number 10 said that the main aim of the new site was to enhance the amount of video content and added that a redesign had been planned for some time.

He said: "It's had the same design since 2003 and was lacking the functionality of current sites."
