Expedia enhances usability with social search

Travel site Expedia has teamed up with Baynote to implement a new social search facility in its website.
Baynote Social Search helps users to filter search results depending on the usefulness of pages as determined by other website visitors.
According to the two companies, the tool increases the usability of the Expedia website as it helps to bring up the most relevant search results for users.
For example, while the terms 'San Diego beachfront hotels' and 'beach vacation' are different, users entering these queries may be searching for the same information.
Baynote Social Search allows users to rate the results that come up for these terms to help others to determine whether these are the pages they are looking for.
Tom Taylor, director of strategy for Expedia, commented: "Baynote's Social Search technology is a great fit for Expedia because the collective input from our millions of monthly visitors constantly improves the relevance of the search results."
Other companies that use Baynote's technology include Abebooks.com, Motorola, Juniper Networks and Symantec.
