AOL has announced the launch of two new additions to its growing network of niche websites, Pixcetera and WalletPop.
Pixcetera is a professional photography gallery that focuses on high-quality images. Users can rate and review these photos, while editors at the site offer news and tips on photography trends and processes.
"We saw an opportunity for a site focused on the premier image - the type of photo that stops you in your tracks," commented Peter Rivera, senior vice-president of experience design at AOL.
Meanwhile, WalletPop is a US-focused personal finance and investment website that provides advice and information on savings, mortgages, insurance, taxes, banking and other aspects of consumer finances.
The development and launch of the two new sites is part of a bid by AOL to boost its online advertising revenue and bolster its efforts to move away from the image of an internet access provider, according to the Associated Press.
