Internet software company Opera has unveiled a new initiative to support website design training in businesses and educational establishments worldwide.
As part of this, the firm has launched a comprehensive overview of the knowledge required to carry out effective client-side web design in the form of the Opera Web Standards Curriculum.
This curriculum covers subject topics such as HTML, CSS, visual design and JavaScript and is available to all for free under a Creative Commons license.
Opera said that the curriculum could provide an ideal place to start for businesses looking to run website design courses for employees, as well as for universities, schools and colleges.
"This course will help students to learn the right way to implement web design and will increase their understanding of the importance of web standards for creating valid web resources," commented Andrew Cobley, lecturer in internet programming at Dundee University.
Opera is best known for its web browser product, with the latest version being Opera 9.51. Its software is currently available for desktop computers, mobile phones and other portable devices.
