Companies looking to improve the usability of their websites have been offered advice on the best ways in which to do so.
According to Shailesh Manga of consultancy Optimal Usability, those with a lot of information to present to web users should ensure that the most important data is shown first and that it is easily understandable, the New Zealand Herald reports.
Related information should also be presented in a way that makes it obvious it is linked to the content being viewed, while displaying text in a web-friendly format - such as using bullet points and short paragraphs - can also help.
In terms of navigation, every page should make it clear to visitors where they are on the site, while using visuals such as icons, labels, typography and colours can aid users in getting around the site, Mr Manga remarked.
"Even if a site is well-organised and information is in clearly labelled categories, the design of the navigation elements can undo good work," he noted.
The European commission recently launched a consultation to find ways of helping businesses to make their websites more accessible and usable for those with a disability.
