Tech restraints 'hamper company website design'

New research has revealed that half of marketing communications (marcomms) managers are unhappy with their company website design.

Carried out by Coleman Parkes Research for SDL Tridion, the study showed that 50 per cent of these executives do not get the exact look and feel they require as a result of technical issues.

The survey indicated that this can be attributed to a lack of communication between IT and marketing departments, resulting in websites failing to satisfy any of the parties involved.

Almost a third of marketing professionals said they have had to delay campaigns as a result of delays in website changes, while there is a general disagreement between marketing and IT functions over who has final responsibility for the site.

"While fewer IT managers said there is tension between them and their marcomms colleagues than the marketing managers claimed, it is clear there is still a battle raging between the two sides," commented Erik Aeyelts Averink, president of SDL Tridion.

He added that this makes the site "the unwitting victim", hampering communications between the company and its customers as a result.

Last week, SDL Tridion released separate research findings suggesting that web users are most frustrated by pop-up ads, long intros that cannot be clicked out of and losing entered data after hitting the 'back' browser button.
