An engineer from Google has offered a number of tips for businesses seeking to use search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies with their websites.
Matt Cutts told USA Today that there are a number of basic ways traffic to a site can be increased.
He explained that while relative search terms should be prominently featured on a website to ensure that they are identified by search engines, it is important not to overuse keywords, as it is better to weave them naturally into text on the site.
"After you've said it two or three times, Google has a pretty good idea ... just think about the two or three phrases you want to be known for and weave that in naturally," Mr Cutts said.
He also suggested that for some businesses, free tools to improve search positioning can be helpful, as well as creating a blog.
Further to this, he emphasised that relevant title and description HTML tags should be used, as they are also scanned by search engines such as Google.
The search engine firm recently launched a new version of its Trends tool, which enables users to track visits to a particular website.
