Designing a website that is accessible by all can provide a major boost to business operations, according to one firm.
Consultancy Diversus said that firms should take the time to make their sites usable for those with disabilities in order to attract more users and get the edge over their competitors.
"Because of the way the site will be designed and developed, the site will also benefit from increases in search engine ranking, web presence and upload time," Simon Pawelski of the organisation explained.
A growing number of companies around the world are waking up to the benefits of improving website accessibility. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, some organisations have been working on making their sites accessible to the blind in a variety of ways.
However, Paul Schroeder of the American Foundation for the Blind told the newspaper that many businesses are falling down on website design basics such as using pictures and graphics without labels explaining what they show and following a template that enables users to view the site on a mobile device.
