A new study has revealed that a growing number of UK households are switching onto online video viewing.
According to the latest Deloitte Digital Index report, 19 per cent of British households regularly watch internet videos, compared with a figure of eight per cent recorded in August 2007.
This could rise to more than 50 per cent of all households within the next five years, Deloitte said, citing the increasing popularity of video streaming offerings such as the iPlayer and improvements in the technology used to deliver online clips as driving factors.
"While digitisation has already enabled mass market change, from the adoption of emails and mobile phones to the growth of e-commerce, digitisation's full impact has yet to be felt," commented Jolyon Barker, head of technology, media and telecoms at Deloitte.
According to ABI Research, more than one billion web users will watch online videos by 2013.
