The UK is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to e-commerce, it has been claimed.
Speaking to the UK Association of Online Publishers board, Enders Analysis media analyst Douglas McCabe said that British e-commerce has risen by 54 per cent in the last year to reach a value of £47 billion.
Some £1,500 is being spent by each Briton on purchases made over the internet - more than can be seen in the US, he explained.
Now owners of digital media perceive e-commerce as an "increasingly important driver", Mr McCabe remarked, going on to note that spending on online advertising overtook that on TV advertising on a per user basis in 2007.
According to recent figures from comScore, spending on e-commerce in the US rose by 15 per cent last month, compared with a figure of nine per cent in March.
