Car insurance landscape 'going digital'

Online car insurance sales are growing, according to a new study.
The past year has seen a three per cent increase in the number of people purchasing vehicle cover online, comScore's new report indicates.
Based on figures from the third week of March, the study shows that 15 per cent of respondents bought their current car insurance policy via e-commerce.
Kevin Litt, vice-president of comScore, said that the traditional method of purchasing cover via a local provider is beginning to wane as online strategies grow more sophisticated.
According to the report, there has been a corresponding three per cent decline in use of such local agents in the past year, with such facilities now representing some 53 per cent of deals.
Mr Litt suggested: "While it still remains the primary method, these latest findings show us that the landscape is beginning to change, with more and more consumers turning from traditional, offline channels to the internet."
A report from the analyst released earlier this year claimed that the motor sector's heaviest online advertiser was General Motors in January.
