The shared outlook of search pioneers Yahoo! and Google could make an advertising tie-up feasible, executives at Google have said.
Commenting before the company's annual meeting this week, co-founder Sergey Brin expressed the company's positive feelings about a potential deal.
According to the BBC, some commentators have suggested that the two-week advertising trial pursued by the online giants was primarily intended as a guard against Microsoft's attempt at an acquisition of Yahoo!, which collapsed last weekend.
But Mr Brin said: "We have been talking to Yahoo! and we are very excited to be working with them.
"We share a lot of values with them."
Meanwhile, chief executive Eric Schmidt said that the trial had been a "successful" initiative.
Earlier this week, Reuters reported that a deal between the companies could see Yahoo! search results integrated with Google ads.
But the report suggested that final details of such an online strategy had not yet been finalised.
