Details of a potential advertising deal between Google and Yahoo! have not yet been finalised, a source said this week.
Reuters reports that the two web pioneers are still putting the crucial touches to an arrangement that could see Yahoo! carry Google ads together with its search results, according to a person close to Google.
The news comes after talks between Yahoo! and Microsoft over a prospective acquisition collapsed this weekend, when the latter raised its offer to buy Yahoo from $31 (£15) per share to $33 but was rebuffed by the firm.
Meanwhile, the source also suggested that Yahoo! and Google are sharing details of any potential advertising arrangement with anti-trust regulators.
However, it was not confirmed when any agreement would be announced.
Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft, told Yahoo! in a letter that the potential deal with Google was one reason for the company's abandonment of a takeover.
