Report: 1 in 3 Brits used online banking in January

About a third of UK consumers accessed web-based banking facilities in the first month of 2008, a new report notes.
Figures from comScore reveal that 10.9 million customers used at least one internet banking account in January, equal to 33 per cent of the total British population.
According to the research firm, Royal Bank of Scotland received the highest number of customers, with 2.9 million people using its e-commerce facilities during the month - two million of whom were with NatWest.
Meanwhile, the most prominent individual financial services brand was revealed to be Lloyds TSB, which was the most frequently visited with 6.8 hits per customers and also received the most customers - 2.8 million.
The Halifax Bank of Scotland Group served 2.4 million customers online, while HSBC received 2.4 million consumers and Barclays Bank 1.7 million.
A recent eMarketer report predicted that mobile payments are to proliferate in the US, with balance requests said to be particularly adaptable to mobile technology.
