Search engine optimisation (SEO) should be a key factor driving website design, one blog post recommends.
According to Search Engine Watch, companies opting for a fresher online presence should not forget to include SEO in their plans for redesign.
Information architecture development should incorporate SEO objectives from the very beginning, while keywords should be a fundamental part of a site from its initiation, the post advises.
And web design strategists should ensure the content management system used is SEO compatible by checking the organic search rankings of websites running on the platform.
Content is said to be important, with about 400 words on the home page and 250 words on internal pages a good target.
"Your website structure, design and content has everything to do with whether your site will rank in search engines," the post states.
Startup Co's managing director, John De Groot, recently advised small businesses to make their domain names as short as possible.
