Internet 'popular resource for sexual health queries'

The anonymity and breadth of information available on the internet makes it a popular resource for those with sexual health queries, a new report has indicated.
According to comScore figures, five of the 20 most commonly searched health conditions in February related to sexual or reproductive health - herpes, HIV, HPV, pregnancy and menopause.
Top of the list was pregnancy with 8,841 queries during the month, followed by cancer which was the subject of 7,718 searches.
Carolina Petrini, senior vice-president of the company, noted that many of the most common conditions such as diabetes, depression and flu generated fewer searches than rarer conditions like cancer and pregnancy.
"A reason for this may be due to life-changing nature of a cancer diagnosis or a pregnancy," she suggested.
Meanwhile, a recent study by the American Association of Retired Persons discovered that three-quarters of US people over the age of 65 would be open to online medical resources and telemedicine facilities, reported eMarketer.
