Data storage 'biggest e-commerce challenge'

The most significant challenge facing online retailers is data storage, a representative of the UK's payments association has said.
Sandra Quinn, director of corporate communications with Apacs, commented that e-commerce companies must operate according to strict regulations surrounding their use of any card or current account data.
However, she pointed out that making a payment to an online retailer only involves communicating an account number and sort code, rather than any confidential passwords.
"So you're not giving me any information that's particularly risky because all I can do with these is pay money into your account. You need other data to take money out," Ms Quinn explained.
Recent months have seen the launch of payment systems by POLi and eWise offering customer the option of paying directly from their bank account at online shopping companies' checkout pages, bypassing the requirement to input card details.
But no British banks have signed up to such schemes so far, a new report in the Guardian has noted.
