The audience for current affairs websites expanded the US in February, according to a new report.
Online news resources saw increases last month across both business/finance and general news categories, comScore's top 50 web rankings for February have revealed.
Economic concerns and interest in the presidential primaries were cited as drivers of this growth, which took the audience for business/finance news to 62 million visitors and the general news audience to 107 million visitors.
The digital world analyst's data found that Yahoo! Finance, AOL Money & Finance and MSN Money led the business/finance category's six per cent growth, while general news's two per cent increase was led by Yahoo! News, CNN and MSNBC.
Other notable trends in February included a Valentine's Day boost for flowers, greetings cards, gifts and e-cards, as well as a surge in visits to individual presidential candidates' websites.
Previous comScore research found that heavy bloggers tend to consume large amounts of news and entertainment content on the web.
