The Six Nations rugby union TV coverage is to be made available on the BBC's iPlayer, it has been announced.
From this weekend, the rugby competition is to become the first sporting event covered by the network to be broadcast on the web-based tool, the Guardian reports.
"Rugby is quite a big sport in terms of online video viewing in the UK and while it is not the crown jewel of football it is a significant breakthrough for the iPlayer," said Arash Amel, an analyst at Screen Digest.
For seven days after their original TV broadcast, games will be accessible via the iPlayer.
The publication points out that the deal marks a significant step for the BBC, which has been fighting to secure the rights to broadcast sport, imported TV shows and films on the new tool.
More than 3.5 million programmes were watched on the iPlayer over the Christmas period, the BBC reported earlier this year.
