The latest figures from comScore show a strong presence for multi-channel retailers in the fastest growing UK web properties rankings for December 2007.
According to the new report, Next experienced a 20 per cent increase over Christmas, receiving 4.7 million visitors, while Dixons also grew by 20 per cent, taking its audience to 8.1 million and HMV grew 19 per cent to 5.7 million users.
Online retail was found to be prominent over Christmas, with eight of the ten fastest growing online properties falling into this category.
At the top of the rankings was ValueClick, which expanded by 38 per cent and reached 3.5 million visitors.
"The Christmas season had a significant impact on the prevailing traffic trends in December," noted Bob Ivins, executive vice-president of European markets for comScore.
"Eight of the top ten gaining properties were retail-related as consumers shopped for holiday gifts online and online greetings also proved popular," he continued.
Facebook made its first break into the top-ten properties last month.
According to a new Guardian survey of influential members of the digital sector, 79 per cent of such figures use the social networking site regularly.
