Online and other forms of digital advertising are to continue their growth this year, according to a new poll.
The majority of respondents to a Guardian survey of "influential digital practitioners" expressed the belief that digital advertising would increase its share of the UK market from 18 per cent last year to 21 per cent in 2008 and 25.5 per cent in 2010.
Media sensations to look out for in 2008 include James Murdoch, chief executive of News Corporation Europe, and Google, suggested the poll, which was conducted by GMG, owner of MediaGuardian.co.uk.
Over a third of those surveyed said they would prefer to work for Google than Apple, Microsoft, Facebook or Bebo, while no respondents said they would leave their present role for a job with MySpace.
Some 79 per cent of those polled claimed to use Facebook regularly, while 63 per cent used Gmail and 56 per cent used LinkedIn.
Meanwhile, the latest comScore figures show that eight of the ten fastest growing web properties in December 2007 were online retail sites.
