A new year's message from the Archbishop of Canterbury is to be broadcast on YouTube, it has been reported.

Dr Rowan Williams's speech to usher in 2008 is to be uploaded onto the video sharing web service, according to the Grantham Journal.

Environmental concerns drive the Archbishop's new year message, which is to be filmed at a recycling centre as well as Canterbury Cathedral.

Dr Williams is said to have warned that viewing resources as infinitely disposable could have implications for personal relationships.

He said: "In a society where we think of so many things as disposable, where we expect to be constantly discarding last year's gadget and replacing it with this year's model - do we end up tempted to think of people and relationships as disposable?"

Founded in 2005, YouTube was bought by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion (£826.6 million).

Born in 1950, Dr Williams became Archbishop of Wales in 2000.
