The number of posts made on Twitter last month rose significantly compared with June, according to new figures.

Statistics from Twitter directory app Twellow show that 652.7 million tweets were made in July, up from 426.6 million posts in June.

This is in spite of the rate of growth in user registrations seeing a slowdown between the two months.

Matthew Daines, lead developer of Twellow, told WebProNews that the rise in tweets between June and July is almost equivalent to the number of posts made on Twitter in the whole of April.

He added: "The pace of new user registrations appears to have slowed for the month, up only 500,000 over June's 8.8 million. Still growing though at a respectable pace, I'd say."

Recent figures from Nielsen Online showed that the number of mentions of Twitter taking place on social media sites such as message boards and blogs has risen to the same level as the number of Facebook mentions.
