The royal family has announced that Twitter users can now keep up to date with the latest news from Buckingham Palace via the social networking site.
Twitter members can follow the Queen and her family at their new account, @BritishMonarchy, which had more than 8,800 followers as of today (July 13th).
However, a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace stressed that the royal family's tweets will be limited to official news and announcements as opposed to personal comments.
"The Queen has been advised that it's up and running but there won't be any members of the royal family tweeting," she commented.
About 590 tweets have already been made through the new account, with some of the first posts including links to photos of the Queen meeting Carol Ann Duffy, the poet laureate, and a YouTube video of the changing of the guard.
The British monarchy's website was officially relaunched with a new design and greater integration with social media content in February this year.
