A new survey has suggested that UK marketers are planning to spend more on their online strategy this year compared with 2008.
The poll was undertaken by the Online Marketing Show - which is run by new media age (nma) - and found that businesses expect to spend about ten per cent on internet campaigns by the end of 2009.
About 96 per cent of the more than 90 senior executives surveyed said they believed that integrating web ads into their overall marketing strategy is vital for their operations.
Nearly three-quarters of respondents cited social media as a crucial tool for their businesses.
"Most companies have been experimenting with online marketing for a while," said Michael Nutley, editor-in-chief of nma.
"The economic climate has now forced a shift in focus, allowing marketers to invest more heavily online."
Online ad spending rose by 17 per cent in the UK last year, according to the Internet Advertising Bureau.
