Businesses must make sure that they get the basics of their online marketing strategies absolutely right as the recession continues, experts said at a recent event.
Reporting on comments made at Econsultancy's Future of Digital Marketing conference, Karin von Abrams of eMarketer commented that firms were urged to look over their websites and check that usability, navigation and content are all of the highest quality possible.
She also highlighted recommendations to deploy consistent branding, use simple and clear calls to action and take advantage of search engine marketing as it is one of the most important areas of online marketing.
"Marketers of all stripes, dogged by the recession and overwhelmed by the plethora of digital tools and channels available, need to get the essentials right," Ms von Abrams said.
A recent survey by Forbes.com found that senior marketing executives rate search engine optimisation, pay-per-click ads and email marketing as the top online tactics for boosting conversions.
