New statistics have shown that almost 152 million US web users watched an online video in April this year, accounting for nearly eight in ten of the American online population.
According to comScore, these internet users watched 16.8 billion online videos between them, up 16 per cent compared with the previous month.
Each video viewer watched 111 clips on average, equating to 6.4 hours of footage each.
YouTube continued to dominate the market, with 107.1 million web users watching 6.8 billion clips on the video-sharing site in April.
MySpace ranked second with a viewership of 49 million people and a total of 387 million videos watched.
Other popular online video websites included Hulu.com, Yahoo!, Viacom Digital and Microsoft.
A recent study by Nielsen Online found that MySpace is currently the most popular social networking site in the US when it comes to video streaming, despite the fact that Facebook is the most visited social network overall.
